Chanakya School is at Plot No-41 in Shiv Colony, which is over in the Sabalpura area of Sikar. It’s a residential neighborhood, so we are surrounded by houses and families. The school isn't a massive campus with stadiums; it's more like a neighborhood building where everyone knows each other. Sikar can be quite dusty and hot, especially when the winds pick up, so we are always fighting a losing battle with the dust on the windowsills. We have a small staff of people who genuinely care about the kids who come here. Most of the children walk to school from just a few streets over. We don't have a big glossy brochure or a fancy website. Most people find out about us just by walking past or talking to their neighbors. The classrooms are simple, with wooden desks that have seen better days, but they serve their purpose. We spend our time checking notebooks and making sure the chalkboard is clean for the next lesson. Life at Chanakya School is pretty predictable. We start early, have a break in the middle of the day for snacks, and finish up before the afternoon heat gets too bad. It’s an honest way to make a living, and it feels good to be part of the Shiv Colony community. We just take things one day at a time here because that is all we can really do to keep things moving forward.
