Hotel Shingar

Our hotel sits right on The Mall in Shimla, which is a place most people want to be when they visit. Being in the 171001 zip code means we are right in the thick of the walking district. Since cars aren't allowed on much of The Mall, it has a different feel than other city hotels. You have to walk to get to us, which can be a bit of a climb if you have heavy bags, but that is just how Shimla works. We have been here for many seasons now, through the snowy winters and the busy summer months. The building has that old hill station style, with wooden floors that sometimes creak when you walk on them. We don't try to be a five-star luxury resort. We are just a local hotel where you can get a room and a bit of advice on where to eat or which trails to walk. The view outside can be great when the clouds clear, but other times it is just grey mist. We have a small team of locals who help out with everything. It can get very crowded on the street during the tourist season, so the lobby sometimes fills up with people trying to get out of the rain or the cold. We just try to keep the rooms warm and the tea ready. It is a simple life up here on the ridge, and we enjoy meeting people.
