Hotel Asia The Dawn

You have to drive up to Kachi Ghati to find Hotel Asia The Dawn. We are located near Tara Devi, which is a bit of a climb. The air up here is much cooler than down in the valley. We spend a lot of our time dealing with the mountain weather. Sometimes the fog is so thick you can’t see the road outside. It is a lot of work to run a hotel in the hills. We have to make sure the pipes don't freeze in the winter and that the heaters are all working right. Our staff is used to the uphill walk and the quiet nights. The name sounds a bit grand, but we are just a practical place for people visiting the Shimla area. We don't have any polished corporate speeches. We just tell people to be careful on the roads and to watch out for the monkeys. The mornings are the best time because it is very still before the traffic starts moving toward the main town. We do our own maintenance and keep the place as tidy as possible. Most people come here because they want to be away from the main noise of the city. We just provide a simple place to sleep and a bit of a view when the clouds clear up. It is a quiet, steady kind of life up here.
