Hotel Dalziel

You can find us at Hotel Dalziel right on The Mall in Shimla. This is an old building and we have tried to keep it as it was, so it has a lot of character, though the floors might creak a bit when you walk. Being on The Mall is good because you can walk everywhere, but it also means there are a lot of people passing by all the time. We don't have a huge team of people working here, just a few of us who have been around for a long time. We do the cooking in the small kitchen and make sure the rooms are ready for whoever arrives on the toy train or the bus. The views from the windows are quite nice because you can see the hills and the other houses perched on the slopes. We provide thick blankets because it gets very chilly at night once the sun goes down behind the mountains. It is a very straightforward place to stay. We don't have fancy elevators or modern gadgets, just beds and a bit of hot tea when you ask for it. Many of our guests have been coming back for years because they like the familiar feel of the place. We just try to be helpful and keep the place running smoothly. It is a lot of work climbing these hills every day, but we like living and working here.
