Out here in Lohom, things move a little slower than in the big cities. Our school, Panchkroshi Vidyalaya, is a central part of life for the families around here in Satara. The building isn't very tall, just a few structures that have been added to over the years as we needed more space. We have a lot of open ground around us, which is nice when the weather is good. You can see the hills in the distance from the porch. Most of the kids come from the nearby farms and houses. They walk a good distance sometimes to get here. We teach the usual subjects, mostly in the local language so everyone understands clearly. The furniture is a bit old, but it is sturdy and does the job. We don't have high-tech gadgets in every room. We rely on the teachers talking and the students writing in their notebooks. It’s a very practical place. When there is a local festival, the school feels it too because everyone is involved. We aren't trying to be anything other than a good local school for the village. We handle the paperwork, keep the floors swept, and make sure the lessons happen every day. It’s honest work and we are glad to be doing it here. The community knows us well and we know them. That is how it has always been for us, and we don't see that changing anytime soon.
