About Dnyandeep English Medium School – Education in Satara
Wai is a quiet town, and our school is right on the Panchgani Road. You can see the hills from the windows on clear days. It gets really dusty here in Satara, especially when the buses go by on the main road. The building is simple, nothing like the big city schools. We have wooden benches that have been around for a while and the blackboards always need a good scrub. Most of the teachers here come from the nearby villages. We start the day with the kids lining up outside, and if it’s raining, it gets a bit muddy near the gate. We don't have a lot of fancy equipment, just the books and whatever we can find to help explain things. The playground is just a patch of dirt, but the kids don’t seem to mind. They play cricket or just run around until they’re sweaty. We spend our afternoons grading papers and drinking tea in the small staff room. It’s a lot of work keeping the kids focused, especially when the weather is nice and they want to be outside. We deal with broken windows sometimes or leaking taps. It’s just a local school trying to teach the kids their English and math so they can do something with their lives. It’s practical, honest work and we do it every day. The parents here are hard workers and we try to respect that.
