Mhaswad is a quiet place, and our school is tucked away here in the Satara district. We have the high school and the junior college all in one area, so the students stay with us for a long time. You see them come in as young kids and eventually leave as young adults. The buildings are spread out a bit, and there’s always someone walking between the different blocks. We have a lot of stairs, which keeps everyone moving. The junior college students are usually a bit more serious, hunched over their notes in the common areas, while the younger ones are much noisier. The staff room is always full of tea cups and stacks of papers waiting to be graded. We’ve had the same furniture for years, and it’s held up well despite all the use. On hot days, the classrooms can get a bit stuffy, so we keep the doors open. It’s a very local atmosphere here. Everyone knows everyone’s business, and the parents often stop the teachers on the street to ask about a test score.
