Out here in Ugapur, Aurai, things move a bit slower than in the big cities. Surya Carpet Pvt. Ltd. is situated where the air feels a bit different and the surroundings are a lot more open. We don't have the constant honking of city traffic, though the main road nearby gets its fair share of trucks. The building is solid and has been part of the landscape for a good amount of time. Working with carpets in a place like Aurai means you are part of a long tradition, even if we don't talk about it in fancy ways. We just show up, see what needs to be woven or packed, and get to it. Sometimes the neighbors stop by just to say hello or share some news from the village. The workspace is filled with the sound of looms and people chatting while they work.
