Delux Carpet Company

Delux Carpet Company has been around Station Road for as long as I can remember. Our mailing address is P.O. Box No. 96, but the actual shop is right there in the middle of all the noise and bustle near the station. It’s a loud place to work, with the trains and the traffic, but you get used to it after a week or two. We have carpets of every size shoved into this space. Some are old designs and some are a bit newer, but they’re all just sitting there waiting for someone to take them home. I spend most of my day dragging heavy rolls across the floor to show customers. It’s tough on the back, but it’s what we do. My uncle used to run things here, and he taught me how to tell the difference between good wool and the cheaper stuff just by feeling it. We don't have a showroom with fancy displays. It’s more like a warehouse where you have to hunt for what you want. The walls are a bit stained and the floor is concrete, but the carpets are what people come for. We don't do any big sales or marketing. If someone needs a rug, they know we’re here on Station Road. We close up whenever we feel the day is done, usually around seven. It’s just a simple life, selling carpets and watching the people go by toward the station. It is a long day's work, but we are used to the rhythm.
