Regent Rugs

Down on Chauri Road, things move at their own pace. Regent Rugs is tucked away there, and we’ve been operating for a good while. It's a pretty straightforward place. We focus on rugs, obviously. The space we have is long and narrow, so we have to be clever about how we show things off. We use these metal racks that sometimes get stuck if you push them too hard. It’s just how it is. We don’t do a lot of talking unless someone asks a question. Most of the time, we’re just checking the inventory or making sure the edges of the rugs aren’t fraying while they sit in storage. The humidity can be a problem in the summer, so we keep some fans going. They make a lot of noise, but you get used to it after an hour. We get deliveries from the local weavers every couple of weeks. It’s always interesting to see what colors they used this time. Sometimes they’re different from the last batch, even if they were supposed to be the same. People around here don’t seem to mind. They like things that look like they were made by hand. We keep a ledger on the counter for all the sales. It's easier than using a computer for us. It’s just a normal shop on a normal street, doing what we can. We usually close for lunch around one o'clock if it's not too busy. The neighborhood stray dog usually naps right outside our main entrance.
