Oriental Matting Corporation is right in the heart of the Mohalla in Quazipur. This part of town is always buzzing with people and the sounds of workshops. We specialize in matting, which is a big part of the local tradition here. Our building is tucked into a narrow street, so it’s always a bit of a squeeze when a delivery comes in. We have rolls of matting stacked up to the ceiling in some rooms. It’s a dusty business, and by the end of the day, we’re all usually covered in fibers. We don't have a professional marketing department. We just rely on the quality of the mats we put out. People in the neighborhood know us, and we’ve been here for years. The work is physical and requires a lot of patience. Sometimes a weave goes wrong and we have to start over, which is frustrating but necessary. The sun sets, we lock up the gate, and we come back to do it again tomorrow.
