Orient Carpets

Narottamdas Road is where you will find us, right in the Katra Bazar area of Chaksaif. This part of town is always full of life, especially with all the shops and the people moving goods back and forth. We deal in carpets, and our space is usually packed with them. They are heavy and take up a lot of room, so we are always shifting piles around to find specific designs. You can smell the wool and the dyes as soon as you walk in. It’s a very old-school way of doing business. We don't have a website or anything like that. People just know where we are. We spend our days talking to weavers and checking the quality of the knots. It’s a lot of manual work, lifting and rolling and unrolling. My back usually aches by the evening from moving the heavier rugs. The bazar is loud with the sounds of bells and people shouting, but that’s just how it is here. We have some benches where people can sit while we show them the different carpets. We don't try to push anyone to buy anything. They look at the work and decide for themselves. We’ve been in this same spot for years, and not much has changed about how we do things. It’s just about the carpets and the people who appreciate the time it takes to make them. We close up when the sun goes down.
