M B Kasthuri

Our place, M B Kasthuri, is at 93, Krishnan Koil Street. This street is always crowded. There are shops everywhere and people moving carts all day. Our building is one of the older ones. The stairs are narrow and a bit steep. We’ve been in this location for quite a while. Most people in the neighborhood know us by name. It’s a busy environment. We deal with a lot of different things throughout the day. The phone rings a lot. Sometimes it’s hard to hear over the street noise. We keep the windows open for the breeze, but it also lets in the dust. We don't have a big staff. It's just a few of us. We know where everything is kept, even if it looks messy to an outsider. We don't have a lobby or a waiting area. People just come right to the counter. We have some old wooden shelves that go all the way to the ceiling. We use a tall ladder to reach the top. It’s a bit shaky, but it works. Lunch is usually brought from home in tiffin boxes. We sit together and talk about the news or the weather. It’s a simple routine. We open up early and close when the street starts to quiet down. It’s just how things are on Krishnan Koil Street.
