About Star Handicrafts – Art & Craft in Saharanpur
We’ve been tucked away here at Gote Shah Ki Chungi for quite a long time now. If you walk down Lane No.3 near Sabri Ka Bagh, you’ll find our shop, Star Handicrafts. It’s not a big place and there’s usually a bit of a mess with all the wood scraps and tools lying around. My brother and I started this because we knew how to work with our hands. We don't have a fancy showroom or anything. People just come by when they need something specific made. The neighborhood is always noisy, especially in the mornings when everyone is heading to work. We usually have a tea around eleven and talk about what needs finishing by the end of the week. Sometimes the humidity makes the wood swell, so we have to be careful with how we store things. It’s a lot of physical labor, and our backs hurt by the evening, but it’s what we know how to do. We don't really do much advertising. Most of our customers are locals or people who heard about us from their neighbors. The lane gets pretty crowded in the evenings, making it hard for trucks to drop off materials, but we manage somehow. We just keep the doors open and see who walks in. It’s a simple life and we aren't trying to be anything we’re not. Just a small shop in a busy part of town.
