Shivani Handicrafts

Down on Abdul Salam Road in the Kutub Sher area, you will find Shivani Handicrafts. It is a bit of a crowded spot, but that is just the way this part of town is. Our workshop is usually filled with bits of wood, fabric, and whatever else we are working with at the moment. It is not a factory where everything is done by robots. We do things by hand, so there are always shavings on the floor and half-finished pieces sitting on the benches. Some of us have been doing this since we were kids, learning from the older folks in the neighborhood. We don't have a big marketing team or anything like that. People just hear about us through word of mouth or see our work when they pass by the shop. The noise of hammers and saws is pretty much the soundtrack to our days. It gets dusty, and in the summer, it gets pretty hot under the roof, but we stay busy. Every piece we make takes a bit of time, and we don't like to rush it just to get it out the door. We aren't looking to change the world, just making things that people can use in their homes. If you walk down Abdul Salam Road, you can probably hear us working before you even see the sign. It’s just a simple place where we keep the old traditions going as best as we can.
