India Expo Handicrafts

Our place, India Expo Handicrafts, is located in Shaheed Ganj. We are on the first floor, right across from the Gandhi Ashram. It is a fairly quiet part of town compared to the main markets, which we like. The building is simple and does not stand out much. Inside, it is mostly full of handicrafts we are getting ready to ship or show. There is a lot of wood and cloth everywhere, so it has a certain smell to it. Not a bad smell, just like a workshop. We have a few old wooden tables where we do all our packing. The light comes in through the front windows in the morning and hits the dust motes. We do not have any big slogans or posters on the walls. It is just us doing the work. Sometimes we are here late finishing an order, and the street outside gets really still. We have been at this for a while, so we have our own way of doing things. It is not always the fastest way, but it works for us. We drink a lot of chai and talk about the weather or the news while we are working. It is a small operation, and we like it that way. If you come by, you will probably find someone sorting through a stack of fabric or checking a crate. It is honest work and we just get on with it every day.
