About New Style Handicrafts – Art & Craft in Saharanpur
If you come down Abdul Salam Road in the Qutub Sher area, you'll find us. New Style Handicrafts is our little corner where we put things together. It’s a noisy neighborhood sometimes, but it’s home. We work with various materials to make different kinds of decorative items. It’s mostly hand-done, so you’ll see us using chisels, hammers, and brushes throughout the day. The floor is usually covered in shavings or scraps of fabric, depending on what we are working on. We don't have a big fancy sign out front. Most people in the area know us anyway. The shop is small and can get a bit crowded when we have a lot of orders to finish. We don’t follow a corporate schedule really. We start early and stay until the work is done. It’s been this way for years. I learned the trade from older craftsmen and just kept at it. Every piece we make is a bit different from the last one. That’s the nature of handicrafts. You can’t rush it. Sometimes a piece doesn't turn out right and we have to start over. It’s just part of the job. We keep the kettle going for tea and try to stay focused on the task at hand. It’s a simple life on Abdul Salam Road, but it keeps us busy and pays the bills. We don't ask for much more than that, just steady work and a little quiet.
