Khan Handicraft is tucked away in Nadim Colony, right near the Heena Masjid. You can usually hear the call to prayer from our front door, which is a nice part of our day. The workshop is where we spend most of our time. It’s filled with the smell of raw materials and the sounds of hands working. We aren't a factory with machines; it's mostly just us using our hands to make things. The space is a bit cramped because we have so much stock piled up in the corners. Nadim Colony is a tight-knit place, and everyone knows everyone. We’ve been making these crafts for a long time, passed down through the family. It isn't always easy work, and sometimes our fingers get sore by the end of the week. We don't have a fancy catalog. Most of the time, people just come by and see what we have finished on the shelves. Sometimes we make mistakes and have to start over, but that's just how it goes with handmade stuff. We like being in this neighborhood and keeping the tradition going. It’s a quiet life for the most part, just steady work and talking with the people who stop in from the masjid. We keep things humble and just focus on the piece in front of us. When the shop is clean at night, it feels like we’ve done a good day's labor.
