Woodland Handicraft

If you head down to Ali Ki Chungi near Sabri Ka Bagh, you will find our workshop. We are right by Indra Chowk. It is easy to tell when you are close because you can usually hear the sound of sanding or smell the wood and the polish. We make all kinds of handicrafts here. It’s a lot of manual work. We don't use big automated machines that do everything for us. Most of it is done by hand with simple tools that have been around for years. Our clothes are usually covered in sawdust by noon, but we don't mind that much. The shop is a bit cluttered because we have pieces in different stages of being finished. Some are just rough wood and others are waiting for a final coat of varnish. It’s a slow process, and you can't really hurry it if you want it to look right. People from the area often stop by just to see what we are working on that day. We don't have a formal sales floor. You just walk in and see the work happening right there. It’s a local spot and we’ve been part of the community for a long time. We just keep our heads down and keep carving. It is honest work and it feels good to see a finished piece of wood turn into something useful. We just do our best to finish every piece properly.
