About Ikram Handicraft – Art & Craft in Saharanpur
We've been here in Mohalla Shahnoorji for a long time now. It’s right across from the Islamia Inter College. Most days it’s pretty busy outside with the students coming and going. Inside our place, it’s mostly about the work. We handle various types of handicraft items. Usually, it's quite dusty because of all the carving and sanding we do. Our team isn't very big, just a few of us who know how to handle the tools. People sometimes have a hard time finding the entrance because the street gets crowded, but once you see the college gate, we are right there. My father started this, and I just kept it going. We don't have a big showroom or anything fancy like that. It’s just a workshop where things get made. Sometimes the orders are small, sometimes they are a bit larger, but we just take it one day at a time. The neighbors know us well. We drink a lot of tea while we work. It's not a quiet place, especially when the machines are running or when someone is hammering away at a piece of wood. We try to keep things organized, but in a workshop, that’s hard. If you stop by, you’ll probably see us covered in sawdust. That’s just how it is here. We focus on the pieces we are making and hope they turn out okay for the people who asked for them. We aren't trying to be the biggest shop in town.
