Rayagada Farmers Producer Company Limited is based out in the hills at Janisahi. Our plot number is 82/157/224. To get to us, you have to go via Kalyansinghpur and then head towards Sikarpai. It is a long way from the big cities, and that is where the farmers are. We are a collective group of people who grow things and try to sell them for a decent price. The office is just a plain building where we gather to talk about the weather and the crops. Most of us are more comfortable in the fields than behind a desk. We handle the paperwork because we have to, not because we like it. The air is clean out here, but the work is very hard. We don't have a marketing budget or a fancy website. We just have our names and our reputation among the other farmers in Janisahi. Sometimes the road to Sikarpai gets washed out during the monsoon, and we have to wait it out for a few days. It teaches you patience. We help each other with the planting and the harvesting. It is a community thing more than a corporate thing. We don't use big words to explain ourselves. We just show up every morning and do the work that needs to be done on the land. It is a basic way of life, and it keeps us going year after year. We are just doing what our families have always done.
