Vijay Sweet Mart

We are located right on Jumma Masjid Road in Shivaji Nagar, at number 12 in the Oswal Parekh building. If you’re standing at the ST Stand, you can see our shop right across the street. Being near the bus station means there is never a quiet moment. We’ve been here for a long time, selling sweets to travelers and people living in the area. My father started this mart, and I just sort of took over when he got too old to stand all day. The kitchen in the back is where we spend most of our time. It gets incredibly hot when the big burners are on. We make everything in small batches so it doesn't sit around for too long. Sometimes we run out of the popular stuff by noon, which makes some people grumpy, but that’s just how it goes. The glass counters have a few cracks and the paint is peeling a bit near the door. We don't have a marketing team or anything like that. People just know us because we’ve been here forever. We spend a lot of time cleaning up sugar spills and washing out the big metal trays. It’s a lot of work and my back usually hurts by the end of the shift. But it’s a good feeling when someone likes what we made. We’re just a regular local shop trying to keep the tradition going. The smell of ghee is everywhere.
