If you know Shukrawar Peth, you know how tight the lanes get. Jalan Crackers is tucked away in Papu Kato Sate Jamune Mohala, at number 1384. It’s a bit of a maze to get here if you aren’t from around the area. We have boxes stacked up to the ceiling most of the time. During the big festival seasons, the place gets absolutely packed. We spend hours just moving inventory around so we can find what people are asking for. The air smells like cardboard and paper. It’s a family-run kind of thing, so there’s always someone around, even if we aren’t officially open. We use those old registers for writing down what goes out. The neighbors are used to us by now, even when the deliveries arrive late and we have to unload everything in the dark. It’s not a fancy showroom. It’s more of a warehouse that people just happen to walk into. We spend a lot of time on the phone checking on stock. The floor is concrete and stays a bit cool even when it’s hot outside. Sometimes we just sit on the crates and talk about the news while waiting for the next truck. It's a lot of physical work, lifting heavy cartons and making sure nothing gets damp. It's just how we've always done it here in the Peth.
