We are located in Hadapsar, over in Raje Shivaji Nagar. It’s a family business, so you’ll usually see me or my brother behind the counter. We grew up around these smells—milk boiling for hours and the scent of sugar being cooked down. The shop isn't very large, so we have to stack the boxes pretty high sometimes. I spend a lot of my morning just checking the trays to see what needs to be refilled. We make our snacks and sweets in the back room, which gets incredibly hot in the afternoons. I try to stay out front where it’s a bit cooler. We have a lot of neighbors who come in just to buy a few pieces of something for their kids. We don't really do much advertising; people just walk by and see what we have in the window. Sometimes the batches don't come out perfectly, maybe a bit too brown or not sweet enough, but we usually just eat those ourselves or give them to the stray dogs outside. It's a lot of manual work, lifting heavy bags of flour and stirring big pots until your arms ache. But we've been here for a while and people seem to like what we do. We open up early and stay until the streetlights come on. It’s a steady routine. We don't have any big plans to change things; we just want to keep making what we know and serving the people who live around here.
