Shree Ganesh Sandwich

Shree Ganesh Sandwich is found in Hadapsar at 8th Main, 18th Cross Bt/13. It’s a busy little spot right where the roads meet, and there is always someone passing by on their way to somewhere else. We start the day by getting the bread crates stacked up and making the green chutney that we go through so fast. The smell of the fresh butter and the vegetables being sliced is how we know the day has really started. It’s a small space, so we have to be very organized or we’ll just be bumping into each other all day. Being on the 18th Cross means we get a lot of the local crowd who just want something quick while they are on their break. We don't have a lot of space for people to linger, so it’s mostly a lot of wrapping things in paper and handing them over the counter. The traffic in Hadapsar can be a nightmare in the evenings, but we just stay focused on the orders. We have a small radio that plays old songs to drown out some of the honking from 8th Main. It’s a lot of repetitive work, cutting and spreading and toasting, but we've gotten pretty fast at it over time. When the sun goes down and the street lights at Bt/13 flicker on, we start thinking about packing up the leftovers and cleaning the griddle. It’s a long day, but it feels good to finish up and head home.
