Sanjivani Gud Udhyog

Out here in Kedgaon, things move a bit slower than in the city. Our place is right near the railway station, so we hear the trains going by all day and night. We are technically in the village and post office area of Kedgaon, under the Daund taluka. The work we do involves a lot of heat and heavy lifting because making gud is no easy task. You can see the smoke from our chimney from quite a distance when we are in the middle of a batch. We’ve been part of this community for a long time. Everyone knows the spot near the tracks. It’s dusty work, and our clothes usually show it by the end of the shift. We don't have a front desk or anyone in a suit answering phones. You just walk up and talk to whoever is standing by the boiling pits. The local farmers bring their cane, and we get to work. It’s a rhythm we’ve gotten used to over the seasons. Pune is a bit of a drive from here, so we mostly stick to our local circle. The station brings a bit of life to the area, which is nice. We just keep the pans hot and the blocks cooling on the racks. It’s what our family has done, and it’s what we keep doing now.
