Sai Sweets

Our little shop is tucked away in the Navi Sangv area, specifically around Sangavi Bhatia Parel Rakhial Kirti Nagar. It is a place where we spend most of our waking hours, surrounded by the smell of boiling milk and cardamom. We open up early, often when the streets are still a bit dark and quiet, to get the first batches of sweets ready for the day. There is a lot of stirring involved, standing over big iron pots until the mixtures reach the right consistency. It is physical work that leaves you tired by midday, but there is a rhythm to it that we have grown used to over time. The counter is usually filled with different trays, and we try our best to keep everything looking neat, though it gets messy when the afternoon rush starts. Customers come in and out, some in a hurry and others stopping to chat for a minute about the weather or local news. We don't use any fancy machines; most of what we do is done by hand, just like it has always been done. The heat from the kitchen spreads to the front of the shop, making it a bit stuffy during the summer months. We keep a fan going, but it doesn't do much. By the time we close the shutters at night, we are exhausted, but it is a good kind of tired. We just focus on our daily tasks and hope the people who stop by this Navi Sangv location enjoy what we’ve made.
