Sagar Sweets

The shop is right on the Mumbai Pune Road near the Nigdi Ashirwad area, specifically along the S V Road stretch. It is a busy spot. We start very early, usually before the sun is even up, because the milk arrives then. You have to get the pans going for the mawa and the syrup. The smell of sugar is everywhere. It’s been this way for years. People stopping on their way to work grab a quick box or some snacks. The counter gets crowded in the evenings. We try to keep everything clean but it is hard when so many people come through. My hands are usually sticky from something. We make the basic things people like. Nothing too complicated. Sometimes the traffic outside is so loud we have to shout to hear the orders. We have a couple of small tables if someone wants to sit, but most people just take their bags and go. The lights stay on late. We see the same faces every week. Old men from the neighborhood come by to talk about the weather or the local news while they wait. We don't spend money on big signs or anything like that. The glass display shows what we have today. If it runs out, it runs out. Then we make more the next morning. It is a lot of standing on your feet and the floor is often slippery from all the work.
