Sagar Sweets

We are over in the Sangavi Gurudwara Complex inside Nandraj Sankul. Our shop is numbers 9 and 10 right there at Famous Chowk. Being at a crossroads means there is a lot of honking and dust coming in from the street all day long. We have big glass counters filled with different types of barfi and peda. In the mornings we get the fresh milk delivered and start boiling it down. It takes a long time and the steam makes the walls damp. The floor is made of smooth stone but it gets slippery if someone spills a bit of sugar syrup. We have a lot of different colored boxes stacked up high against the back wall for when people buy sweets for weddings or parties. During the festival season the queue goes out the door and we barely have time to sit down. The rest of the year it is just a steady flow of people from the neighborhood. I have a small TV in the corner that I watch when things are slow. We keep a few chairs out front but most people just stand and talk while they wait. It is a simple shop and we just focus on making the sweets the way we learned a long time ago. Nothing much changes here from year to year. We are just glad to have our regulars coming in every week. Sometimes we give the kids a little extra piece of candy if they are polite.
