Ramakant Magar

My name is Ramakant Magar and I’ve been based in Somwar Peth for quite some time now. Specifically, you’ll find me at 17 Kavitha Jain Road inside the Ramchandra Apartment. It’s a solid old building that has been here for years. Living and working in Somwar Peth has a specific rhythm to it that you don’t find in the newer suburbs. Everything is a bit slower here, and everyone knows their neighbors’ business. My place is on the ground floor, so I don’t have to worry about stairs, which is a blessing as I get older. The apartment is small, but it’s enough for what I do. I have a small desk by the window where the light is best for reading and writing. Sometimes the neighborhood kids play cricket right outside, and a ball might hit the door, but that’s just part of life here. I don’t have any fancy signs outside. People usually just find me through word of mouth or by asking the local grocer. I spend my mornings going through my records and the afternoons usually involve a long nap or a chat with whoever stops by. It’s a very quiet existence, and I like the consistency of it. The apartment stays relatively cool even in the summer because of the thick walls. It’s just a plain, honest space where I’ve spent a large part of my life. Nothing more, nothing less.
