If you walk down Shaniwar Peth near the Omkareshwar Mandir, you will find us at Raj VEG Restaurant. Pune is a city that loves its food, and this neighborhood is one of the older, more traditional parts of town. Our place is tucked in near the temple area, so it stays fairly busy with locals and people visiting the mandir. We keep things simple. It’s a vegetarian spot, no meat at all. We have the usual thalis and snacks that people here in Pune like to eat daily. The building is a bit old, and the space inside is just enough for a few rows of tables. It gets a bit loud during the afternoon when the college kids and office workers come in for a quick bite. We don't have fancy waiters in uniforms or anything like that. It’s just us and a couple of helpers making sure everyone gets their food while it is still steaming. The kitchen is small but we manage to get everything out on time. Sometimes the line gets a bit long on weekends, but people usually don't mind waiting a few minutes for a table. We try to keep the water jugs filled and the plates clean. It’s not a place for a long, quiet dinner with candles. It’s more for when you want a solid meal that tastes like something from a home kitchen. We’ve been in this part of Pune for a while now and we know most of the other shopkeepers around here.
