Raj Sweets

We are over here at Raj Sweets on the 16th Cross of Solapur Road. It is a busy corner and the traffic is usually pretty loud from early in the morning. Most of us get here before the sun is even up to start with the milk and the heavy pans. There is a lot of steam in the back room where we work. Our spot is at 1st Main 10 and it is not a very big place but it stays crowded. Sometimes the floors get a bit sticky from the syrup and we have to wash them down twice a day. People from the neighborhood stop by while they are walking to the bus stop or heading home from work. We spend a lot of time just packing boxes and making sure the trays are full. The glass on the display cases always has fingerprints on it no matter how much we wipe it down. We have been in this part of Solapur Road for a while now. The 16th Cross has changed a lot but we are still in the same building at number 10. It is just a regular shop where we do the same things every day. We open the shutters, light the stove, and start the day. There is no fancy office or anything like that here. Just the kitchen in the back and the counter in the front. The street outside is always dusty and the 1st Main gets some shade in the afternoon from the old trees further down. We usually sit on the stools near the door when things quiet down for a bit around three o’clock.
