Raj Sweets

The sun comes up over Warje St No 11 and we are usually already here getting things ready for the morning. It is a quiet corner in Dashmesh Nagar 1 most days before the traffic starts picking up on the main road. Raj Sweets is just a small place, nothing too fancy or modern, with a couple of glass counters and some stools for people to sit on while they have a snack. We spend a lot of our time standing by the big pans in the back area. The steam fills the room when we are boiling things down, and it gets quite thick. It gets really hot in the back during the summer months but we have a small fan that helps a bit. Most of the people who come in are neighbors from around the corner or people walking to the bus stop in the evening. We know a lot of them by face because they stop by almost every day. The floor gets a bit sticky by the end of the shift, so we spend a lot of time cleaning up before we can finally close the shutters. It’s just how things go here in this part of town.
