Poona Sweets

We are down in the basement of Kavikta Complex at shop number 4. It’s right on Aundh Road in Khadki. People sometimes miss the stairs because they are looking at the bigger storefronts up on the street level, but we have been here for quite some time now. Every morning starts the same way with the smell of sugar and ghee filling up our small space. It gets pretty warm in here, especially when the stoves are going full blast in the back. We do not have much room for fancy displays or big chairs. Most of the floor space is taken up by cooling trays and cardboard boxes. Some people stop by on their way home from work to grab something quick for tea. We see a lot of the same faces every week. It is mostly just us working here, keeping things moving and trying to stay organized. The basement stays a bit cooler in the summer than the actual street level, which is a nice break from the heat. We spend a lot of our time cleaning the glass counters and stacking boxes. Sometimes the traffic noise from Aundh Road is so loud you can hear the vibrations through the walls, but inside it is just the usual kitchen noises. We keep the shop open until the evening. It is not a huge operation, just a local spot where we make things and sell them over the counter. People just know where we are by now.
