Working at an industrial estate like the one in Hadapsar means you get used to the sounds of machinery and trucks. Our mill is at 71/A. It’s a large space because we need room for the processing units and the bags of pulses. It’s quite dusty inside, no matter how much we clean, that’s just the nature of dal and besan. We spend our days checking the quality of the grain coming in and making sure the grinders are working right. It’s heavy work sometimes, moving the big sacks around. The office part is just a small corner walled off from the main floor so we can hear ourselves speak. We’ve been here in Hadapsar for quite a while now. The workers have been with us for years, so we all know each other well. Lunchtime is the quietest part of the day when the machines are turned off. We don't have any fancy marketing people or anything like that. We just focus on the milling and getting the product out to the shops. Sometimes a machine breaks down and everyone has to stop and help fix it. It’s a lot of physical work and keeping an eye on the clock. We are just a local mill doing what we’ve always done. The industrial estate is a bit grey and dull, but we like the routine of it and the people who work here.
