Pawan Sweet Home

Pawan Sweet Home is a small spot at Khondhwa 142 where things are always moving. We start very early, usually while most of the street is still asleep, because that’s when the milk for the sweets gets delivered. The back area where we do the cooking gets really hot because of the big iron kadhais we use for frying snacks and boiling down the sugar syrup. You can usually smell the cardamom and fried dough from a few doors down. We have these glass counters in the front that we are constantly wiping because of fingerprints from kids looking at the colorful barfis. It’s not just sweets though; we do a lot of samosas and dhoklas that people pick up for their tea time. Sometimes the rain leaks a little near the front step, so we have to put a piece of cardboard down so nobody slips. The chairs for customers are just basic plastic ones, and the walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but we’re too busy to get to it. We get a big rush around five in the evening when everyone is heading home and wants something to eat. It’s noisy and a bit chaotic with everyone shouting their orders, but we like the energy. We just try to keep the trays full and the tea hot for whoever stops by.
