Panchali Restaurant

Panchali Restaurant is over on Jangali Maharaj Road, or JM Road as everyone calls it, in Pune. We are in Om Chambers, which is directly opposite the Jangali Maharaj Temple. If you know Pune, you know how busy JM Road gets. It’s one of the main veins of the city. The pavement outside is always cracked because so many people walk on it. Being across from the temple means we see a lot of devotees as well as students and office workers. The temple bells ring quite early in the morning. The restaurant has a bit of an old-school Pune feel to it. We haven't changed much over the years because people seem to like it the way it is. The seating is comfortable, even if it looks a bit dated to some. It gets very loud outside with the traffic, but once you come into Om Chambers and into the restaurant, it’s a bit better. We have a lot of regulars who have been coming here for decades. They usually sit at the same tables and order the same things. It’s nice to have that kind of connection with the neighborhood. We don't bother with marketing or big advertisements. Most people find us because they’re visiting the temple or they just know we’ve always been here. We just keep the kitchen running and the water glasses full. It’s hard work, especially on weekends when the street is packed, but it’s what we know how to do.
