New Ambika Sweet Home

We’ve been here at 1195 Sadashiv Peth on Old Madras Road for a while now. Most mornings start early, usually before the sun is even fully up. The shutters go up, and we start getting things ready for the day. It’s not a big fancy place, just New Ambika Sweet Home, a spot where locals stop by on their way to work or when they’re headed home in the evening. There’s always a lot of cleaning to do, keeping the counters wiped down and making sure everything is in its place. Sometimes it gets a bit crowded around the holidays, but mostly it’s just the regular flow of the neighborhood. People know where we are, right there on the main road. We don’t spend much time on decorations or trying to look like a big chain. It’s mostly just us working behind the counter, weighing things out and putting them in boxes. You see the same faces every week, which is nice. There’s a lot of noise from the traffic outside on Old Madras Road, but inside we just focus on the task at hand. It’s a lot of physical work, standing on our feet all day, but that is just how it goes when you run a sweet shop like this. We try to keep things simple and just do what needs to be done every single day without making a fuss about it.
