Murphy Flour Mills

We are over in New Panvel, right near Shree Krupa Hall in Sector-6. Being in Ambika Park makes it easy for the people in Khanda Colony to reach us. The mill isn’t anything fancy to look at. It is just a workspace with heavy machines and plenty of sacks. The rhythm of the day is set by the sound of the motors. When it’s quiet, it feels strange. We usually have a steady stream of people coming in with their containers and bags. Some days we are grinding wheat all day long, and other times it is a mix of different things. The air inside can get quite thick with the smell of fresh grain, which is something you get used to after a week. We have to be careful with the maintenance because these machines work hard. If we don’t grease the parts, they start complaining loudly. It is a physical job, lifting and pouring all day. We see a lot of the same neighbors every couple of weeks when their jars run empty. We don't bother with much paperwork or big systems. We just write things down and get to the grinding. Sometimes the weather makes the flour a bit clumpier than usual, so we have to adjust how the stones sit. It is just the way things are in a local mill like this. We stay open until the last bag is finished, then we clean up and do it again.
