Mohan Sweet

Down in Chandan Nagar, over in Chakan, you’ll find Mohan Sweet. We are located in the Khed taluka, which is a bit of a distance from the main city center. This is a family-run kind of place. We’ve been making sweets here for a while, and the whole shop usually smells like boiling milk and sugar. It’s a lot of work to get the consistency right, and we spend most of our time in the back where the big pans are. The display cases are filled with whatever we made fresh that morning. We don’t use any fancy packaging, just simple boxes and paper. People come in for festivals or just when they want something sweet after dinner. The street outside can get quite muddy when it rains, so we’re always cleaning the floor. We know most of the people who come in by their first names. It’s that kind of neighborhood. We don’t have a big staff, just us and a couple of helpers who know the recipes. Sometimes the power cuts out and we have to use candles, which makes the shop look a bit different for a while. We don't have any big advertisements. Word of mouth is how most people find us. It’s a steady life, just making sweets and talking to the neighbors. We’re happy with how things are here in Chakan. We just keep the stove going every day and hope the batches turn out right.
