Down in Bhosarigoan at the Kailas Esplanade on L B S Marg, you’ll find us at Modern Sweets. We spend our days around large pots and trays of sugar. It’s a sticky job but someone has to do it. The shop isn't very big so it gets crowded fast when a few people come in at once. We don't have a big marketing department or anyone telling us how to look professional. We just wear our aprons and get to work. Most of our time is spent in the back where the actual cooking happens. L B S Marg is a hectic road and the noise from the traffic comes right through the front door. We’ve gotten used to it over the years though. We make the sweets fresh and if we run out of something, we just tell people to come back tomorrow. It’s a very local way of doing things. We know the shopkeepers nearby and we often swap stories over a cup of chai in the afternoon. The Kailas Esplanade building is a landmark for some, but for us, it’s just where we work. We don't use fancy packaging unless someone asks for a gift box. Usually, it’s just brown paper or simple boxes. We like it that way because it’s honest. It’s just us, the sweets, and the people of Bhosarigoan who keep coming back to see what we made today.
