I start the day early here at Mathura Sweets. The sun isn't even fully up when I get to Pimpri S V Road 3 to open the locks. Most people are still sleeping, but the milk delivery is already waiting by the door. This part of S V Road gets really busy later on, so I like to get a head start before the traffic starts humming. Inside, it smells like sugar and heavy cream. We spend the morning moving trays around and checking the displays. It’s a lot of manual work, lifting heavy pots and making sure the counters are wiped down. Most of our regulars come from around Pimpri, stopping in on their way home or picking something up for a family function. Sometimes the shop feels a bit small when five or six people are all trying to look at the same shelf, but we manage. I’ve spent so many hours standing on this floor that I know every little crack in the tiles. It’s not a fancy place, just a simple shop where we do what we know. People recognize us from the sign outside, and we recognize them by their usual orders. If a tray is empty, we just make more. That's how it goes day after day. We don't change much because there's no need to. It's just us here on S V Road, doing the same things we've always done since the beginning.
