M R Ghodke Sweets

Our sweet shop is tucked away in Kothrud, on the 3rd Main Road at 2nd Cross 24. It’s a quiet enough street most of the time, compared to the big main roads. We’ve been making sweets here for quite a few years. It’s a small shop, but we pack it full of whatever we’ve made that morning. Making sweets takes a lot of patience. You have to stand over the big vats of milk and sugar for a long time. My father started this, and now we just keep it going the same way he did. We don't use any of those big machines; most of it is done by hand. It’s a lot of stirring and waiting for things to cool down properly. Neighbors come in for their daily snacks or when they have something to celebrate at home. We know which families like which sweets after all this time. It’s nice being part of the Kothrud community. The shop doesn't have bright neon signs or anything flashy. We just have the glass cases and the scales. Sometimes we run out of things early if it's a festival day, and we have to tell people to come back tomorrow. That's just how it goes when you make things fresh every day. We don't want to change much about how we run things. The old way of doing things works just fine for us and for the people who live around here. We just keep the floors swept and the trays full.
