I’m Kishor Popatlal Pokharna and I spend my days at my shop on Nagdevi Street. If you’ve ever been down this way, you know it’s one of the busiest spots in the city for hardware and tools. My place is small and packed from floor to ceiling with all sorts of metal parts, nuts, bolts, and things I’ve gathered over the years. It isn’t some polished showroom with bright lights. Most of the time, the air is a bit dusty and the light is dim, but I know exactly where everything is kept. People come to me when they are looking for that one specific piece they can’t find anywhere else. I don’t have a big staff or a fancy computer system to track my inventory. I just use my old notebooks and my memory. Dealing with the customers who walk in is the best part of the day. Some are regulars who have been coming for decades, and others are just passing through. Nagdevi Street is a tight community where everyone is trying to make a living. I start early and usually close up when the sun goes down. It’s a simple life and the work is steady. I don’t use any marketing tricks or big advertisements. I just try to be here when someone needs a hand with their supplies. It’s honest work and I’ve been doing it long enough that I don’t think I’d want to be anywhere else.
