If you walk into the Cama Industrial Estate in Shukrawar Peth, you will see us at number 1450. Being in an industrial area means our day follows the shifts of the factories. When the whistle blows or the gates open, we get a huge rush of workers looking for a break. We serve pan, soda, and small snacks. The air around here always smells like grease and metal, so people come to us for a fresh taste. It’s a tough environment but the people are friendly once you get to know them. We have been in this exact spot for years. The wooden counter is worn down from people leaning on it while they talk. I know most of the guys who work in the nearby units and what they usually want before they even say it. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we have to work by candlelight, which makes the shop look a bit strange. It gets very hot in the afternoons under the tin roof. We don't have fancy displays, just the jars of supari and tobacco lined up. It’s a basic shop for basic needs. We don’t try to be anything else. Shukrawar Peth is a busy, old part of the city and we fit right in with the grit and the noise of the industrial estate. We are just glad to be working.
