Jai Bhavani Sweet

The shop is tucked away in Vishrantwadi, specifically in the Qureshi Estate area near Munjabavasti. We’ve been at this spot on SV Road in Gokulnagar for a long time now. It’s a small place, but we pack a lot of stuff into the glass cases every morning. Usually, we start very early, getting the milk and sugar ready for whatever sweets we’re making that day. It gets very busy during Diwali or Ganpati, and the whole family has to come in to help out with the packing and weighing. The rest of the year is more quiet. We mostly see the same people from around the neighborhood. They stop by for a bit of barfi or some snacks on their way home from work. Sometimes the fridge acts up or the lighting in the back isn't great, but we make it work. It’s not a fancy showroom like the big chains you see in the city center. We just have our trays of sweets and some salty snacks on the side. We spend a lot of time cleaning the counters because the dust from the road is always coming in. It’s hard work being on your feet all day, especially in the heat of the summer, but this is what we do. We know which neighbors like their stuff a certain way and we try to remember. It’s just a normal local sweet shop where we try to keep things fresh for everyone.
