If you go down to Kothrud, specifically near Mirghawad 108, you’ll find our little sweet shop. It’s called Jagruti Sweet. We make a variety of things here every day. Usually, the smell of sugar and milk is the first thing you notice when you walk in. We have some glass cases where we put the fresh batches of barfi and laddoos. It’s a small place, so there’s not much room to sit down, most people just buy what they want and take it home. I wake up early to start the kitchen work because some things take hours to cook down. The heat from the big pans can get pretty intense in the back room. My family has been doing this for a bit. We get a lot of people coming in during the festival seasons. That’s when it gets really hectic and we barely have time to breathe. Kothrud is a nice area, quite a few regulars stop by every evening for a little something after dinner. We keep things simple here. We don’t do any fancy packaging, just the regular boxes. Sometimes we run out of the popular items by late afternoon, so people have to wait for the next day. It’s just how it goes with fresh food. Mirghawad 108 is a busy enough spot. We just focus on making the sweets and keeping the shop clean. It’s a routine we’ve got down now after all these years.
