Gopal Sweet Home

Gopal Sweet Home is located in the Kondhwa 1 area and we have been here for a while now. The day usually begins with the milk delivery coming in early. We have large metal containers that we use for boiling the milk down to make khoya. It takes a long time and someone always has to keep stirring it so it doesn't stick to the bottom. The shop smells like sugar and cardamom most of the time. We arrange the sweets in the glass display cases every morning. We have to make sure the labels are right so people know what is what. During the festival seasons like Diwali or Ganpati it gets really crowded in here. We have to bring in extra help just to manage the boxes. The rest of the year it is just the usual neighborhood people coming in for a few pieces of barfi or some namkeen. We sit on the wooden counter and wait for customers. The fan overhead makes a clicking noise but we have gotten used to it. Kondhwa is a busy place and there is always something going on outside our door. We keep the shutters half down in the afternoon when it gets too hot. It is just a simple sweet shop where we do the same routine every day to keep things going for the people who live nearby. We also have to clean the floor every night before we go home and shut everything.
