Gokul Sweets

Our shop is over at Shop No 7 in the Sardar Gawade Chawl, right there in Tanaji Nagar. It’s a busy little corner of Balaji Nagar in Chinchwad, and there is always something going on outside our door. We opened up here because it felt like a good spot where people are always walking by on their way to work or heading home. The space isn’t very big, so we have to be careful about how we stack the boxes and where we put the daily snacks. Every morning, the first thing we do is wipe down the glass and get the fresh batches out. You can smell the sugar and the ghee from down the street when the wind is right. We get a lot of regulars from the chawl who just pop in for a small bit of something sweet after dinner. It isn’t a corporate place with uniforms or scripted greetings. We just talk to people like they are our neighbors, because mostly, they are. Sometimes we run out of the popular items by the afternoon, and we just tell people to come back tomorrow. It’s honest work. The address might sound complicated but once you are in Tanaji Nagar, you will spot us easily enough. We keep the fans running to stay cool and try to keep things as tidy as possible in such a cramped space. It’s just our little sweet shop, doing what we can for the folks around here.
