The shop has been here in Karve Nagar for a while now. We open up pretty early at Mitha Nagar 124 to get the milk boiling and the sugar ready. It’s a small place but it gets the job done. You can usually smell the cardamom from the street when the shutters go up. There is always a lot of washing up to do and the floor gets sticky sometimes but that’s just how it is when you’re making sweets all day. We spend most of our time in the back near the big stoves. The counter stays busy in the evenings when people are heading home from work. It’s mostly locals who stop by for a quick box of something. We don’t have much room for fancy chairs or anything like that. Just the display cases and the scales. Sometimes it gets quite loud with the traffic outside but we’re used to it. The neighborhood has changed a lot since we started but this spot stays the same. We just keep our heads down and keep the batches moving. It’s hard work on the feet and the steam makes it hot in the summer months. But we like the routine of it. We’ve got the same regulars coming in every week and we know exactly what they want before they even say it. It’s just a normal part of life here in this corner of the city. We don't worry about being the biggest shop, just being here every day for the folks who want a bit of dessert.
